10 Positions for Early-Stage Researchers at the BIGSSS-departs Ph.D. Program in Bremen Germany

The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) invites applications to its PhD program BIGSSS-departs (doctoral education in partnerships). The call is open until September 15, 2016.

The program starts in February 2017. The contracts are 42 month time-limited work contracts. Accepted researchers are asked to move to Bremen to be present and participate in the network.

Description                                                                                                BIGSSS-departs provides close supervision of dissertation work in a demand-tailored education and research environment. It supports doctoral fellows in achieving early scientific independence, and provides funds for conducting, presenting, and publishing their research. The language of instruction is English.

BIGSSS’ research areas that are organized in three thematic fields:

  1. Global Governance and Regional Integration

  2. Welfare State, Inequality, and Quality of Life

  3. Changing Lives in Changing Socio-Cultural Contexts

Admitted Fellows of the BIGSSS-departs PhD Program receive employment contracts with a gross salary of €2250 per month. Costs for social insurance and health insurance are deduced from this salary. The BIGSSS-departs program includes several defined PhD Milestones for each academic year. The continuation of the work contract is bound to the successful completion of these milestones. Financing of additional research costs such as travel cost, conference participation, in‐house and outreach events are provided.
