Starting in January 2024 (one-year contract followed by another one-year contact) Salary class 15 (Canton of Geneva)
The successful applicant is expected to contribute to a research project on the dynamics of low-quality work, in- work poverty and subjective well-being in Switzerland and in the UK.

Main tasks, carried out under the supervision of Prof. Eric Crettaz (HETS) and Dr. Rod Hick (Cardiff University) :
- Constructing indicators of low-quality employment, working poverty and subjective wellbeing on the basis of the variables available in the Swiss Household Panel; assessing the reliability of these indicators over time,
- Ensuring the comparability of indicators derived from SHP data with indicators derived from the UK Understanding Society survey, in close collaboration with the team at Cardiff University,
- Carrying out longitudinal statistical analyses on Swiss Household Panel (SHP) data, such as sequence analyses and multinomial logistic regression, as well as other methods the successful applicant might suggest,
- Writing publications targeting high-quality journals,
- Writing conference papers and presenting them at international events.
Requirements :
- PhD in Sociology/Social sciences, Human geography, Demography or Economic Sciences, with a focus on one of the research topics – low-quality work/precarious employment, in-work poverty, labour-market related subjective well-being,
- Very sound knowledge of multivariate statistical analysis, with prior knowledge of the statistical methods mentioned above,
- Excellent written and oral command of English, and English mother tongue is an advantage; Some knowledge of French is useful,
- Good track record in high-quality publications based on statistical analyses.
Characteristics of the position:
- The research project will last 24 months. A one-year contract will be provided, and will be renewed for the remaining 12 months
- The salary class for this position is class 15 – 4 annuities
