For the Research Group “Varieties of Reproduction Regimes” (headed by Dr. Hannah Zagel) the WZB Berlin Social Science Center invites applications for the fixed-term position as a Doctoral Researcher (f/m/x) from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2025 with the possibility of extension for a further year (subject to funding) at 65% of the regular working hours (currently 25.35 hrs./week).
The WZB Berlin Social Science Center is a publicly financed research institution that conducts leading edge theory-based and problem-oriented social science research (http://www.wzb.eu/en). WZB researchers come from across the globe and work across social science disciplines including sociology, political science, economics, law, and psychology. A member of the Leibniz Association, WZB’s research is directed at the science community, policy makers, the media and the general public.
The research group seeks to understand the interplay of policies regulating reproduc- tion, inequalities and norms from a comparative perspective. Particular attention will be paid to the role of policies and regulations to shape patterns of reproduction differentially across social groups, and to affect norms around reproduction and family. These goals will be pursued through theoretically informed comparative analyses, us- ing a variety of methods and international data sources as well as a new database of reproduction policies, which will be built in the project.
Tasks
The position involves participation in developing and answering research questions within the project’s larger framework of reproduction policies and their outcomes. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the work of the group through intellectual exchange, the development and implementation of independent and collaborative research projects, the presentation of their work at national and international conferences and workshops, and the publication of results, preferably in peer-reviewed English-language journals. Further qualification towards a doctoral degree is highly welcome.
